The History Of Shipton Moyne

The History of Shipton Moyne

Shipton Moyne is a village with a long history, dating back to at least 1086, when the name Shipton was first mentioned. The two families most associated with Shipton Moyne are the families of Estcourt and Hodges. Sitting equi-distant from Tetbury and Malmesbury, Shipton Moyne is off the beaten track and has thus had a relatively quiet and peaceful history.

In the History section of this website we will bring together the various documents and stories of note about our village, starting with a well-researched article about Shipton Moyne in the Wilts and Glos Standard from 1953 and a talk given to The Rectory Society about the parish and the village's two Rectories.

As more information about the history of the village becomes available, it will be added to the website.
