Village Quiz Night

The village quiz at The Cat and Custard Pot on Thursday 20 February was a close contest with Gaston & The Floozies (the Dears and Roses) emerging as the winning team. I would encourage as many as possible to take part in future as the quiz is a fund raiser for the work to be done on the Rec.

Please note a scoring error on the last round led to an announcement of a different winner on the night. This was subsequently rectified and the rightful winners will have the dubious privilege of presenting the next quiz!

Hobby Horse Auction

Well done Helen Willis on a very successful auction of her hobby horses. I trust they will all enjoy their new stables.

Hobby horse news: Gemma Hodgson, Suzie Rose and Lucy Boggis-Rolf are the new owners. A huge thank you to them for their bids and thank you to all those who followed the auction and sent messages and emojis following my updates

Sherston Velo Cycling Club

I would like to let you know that the Sherston Velo cycling club Time Trial series will be running again this year, to give our club members and guest riders an opportunity to test themselves in a friendly, competitive environment.

As the routes for our events use roads in Sherston, Shipton Moyne and Didmarton, we wanted to give you advance notice and assure you that we’re taking steps to make our events low-impact and safe for all.

Our TTs will be on Thursday evenings on the following dates:

Each event is strictly limited to 30 participants. Riders will start at 1-minute intervals and will wear a number (black on a yellow background) on their lower back. They are required by the event rules to ride alone and must ride in accordance with the Highway Code. Riders will receive a safety and event rules briefing before each event, including a clear reminder to behave in a considerate manner while participating.

As part of planning the series, we have conducted detailed risk assessment and traffic counts on the route, giving due regard to the safety of competing riders and other road users.

Our events are officially registered with Cycling Time Trials (CTT), the national governing body, of which we are an affiliated club.  They are being held in accordance with the provisions of Section 31 of the Road Traffic Act 1988, the Cycle Racing on Highways Regulations 1960 (S.I 1960, No 250) and the CTT rules and regulations. Wiltshire and Gloucestershire Constabularies have both been notified of our events in accordance with the requirements of the Road Traffic Act.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Yours sincerely,
Simon Vannerley
